Abbey Lee Kershaw made a name for herself when she started modeling for Victoria's Secret in 2008, and has since graced the covers of countless magazines, campaigns, and brand related content. Additionally the glacial-blue eyed Aussie has been the muse of many designers including Calvin Klein, Yves Saint Laurent, and Gucci.
While she's currently stepping away from the fashion spotlight, she's finding herself front and center on a different type of stage: cinema.
“For me, I'm acting because it feels like a creative expression for me,” she said in a recent interview with W Magazine, “It's an art form that I want to explore.”

Lee is also able to tap into more familiar territory, as shown in the visually stunning fashion thriller, The Neon Demon, where she portrays a vain, image-obsessed supermodel. While this might seem like a “safe” role for someone with her past experience, she delivers a breakout performance by exposing the lengths her character is willing to go to maintain her beauty.
She seamlessly transitions from a manufactured, emotionless robot to a woman consumed with jealousy and paranoia. There’s a few visceral scenes in the film that other actresses might have shied away from, due to their graphic content, but Lee seems determined to embrace the bizzareness of it all.

Although her resume is short, Lee’s already presented an incredible range and a preference for roles that showcase more than just her pretty face. “I'm not really interested in anything normal or mediocre, because it just doesn't challenge me” she says.
Underneath her fresh-faced surface, there’s an underlining vunerability that allows her to bring an intensity to projects, making her an ideal candidate for visually stunning films with haunting stories . In Mad Max: Fury Road, she portrays The Dag, one of several women enslaved by the movie’s main villain. Her angelic presence offers a glimmer of hope in the post-apocalyptic setting of the picture.
As she describes it, “I just hope that (audiences are) affected by it. I hope it makes them think about perfection and beauty, and the lengths people are going to these days to attain it. I hope it makes people think twice about it, I suppose.”

It does feel like Lee is at the start of an illustrious career path. She has at least four films coming out in 2017, including Welcome the Stranger, a mystery drama which will reunite her with her Mad Max costar Riley Keough. She’ll also appear in a starring role alongside Idris Elba and Matthew McConaughey in the action adventure, The Dark Tower.
But rather than succumbing to the comfort her new rising status might offer, Lee seems like she’s still searching for a challenge. “I will feel successful when I feel content and I haven’t felt any level of contentment just yet. When I can say that in my life I am content, I think that’s when I’ll feel successful.”
